Activity #1 Response: After watching the
movie “Big Fish”, The scenes that stood out the most were the scene near the end where Will
was carrying his father to the river and sees
everyone that his father tells him about, when Will and Edward were talking on
Edward’s hospital bed and the scene when time froze when Edward first saw
Sandra. I believe the moral lesson that the audience could take away after
watching Big Fish is that life is how you choose to live it and interpret it and that you should live to tell a story. I
think the metaphor of the “big fish” comes from when Edward sees the witch, she
tells him “The biggest fish in the river gets that way by never getting
caught.”. This means that Edward could get what he wants if he
searches hard enough for it. He is the big fish in this movie and what he wants
is to leave his town and find the love of his life, Sandra. Understanding the
story line helps me get into character by evaluating the style and themes of
the film and relate them to my character and the musical’s entirety.
Activity #3 Response: My favorite songs are The Witch, Daffodils
and I Don’t Need a Roof. I envision The Witch to be thrilling, wicked and
haunting with the witches dancing on stage. When Daffodils is being performed,
I think the entire stage should be covered in daffodils to enhance the romantic
effect on stage and to show the beauty of Edward’s love for Sandra. Finally, I
imagine I Don’t Need a Roof to be heartfelt and beautiful, the spotlight on
Sandra and the entire stage to her. I don’t have a least favorite song, I feel
they are all beautiful and enhance the story line’s dramatic effect. All the
songs in the musical soundtrack fit into the context of the play super well.
The Witch is about the witch telling Edward about his future. Daffodils is about
Edward telling Sandra how much he loves her and how long it took him to find
her and how he will shower her with her favorite flowers. I Don’t Need a Roof
is about how Sandra doesn’t need a roof to call it home, if she has Edward
she’ll be alright.
